Deborah Tolman
Teaching
Professor Deborah Tolman has been a faculty member at Hunter College since 2009, teaching in both the Department of Women and Gender Studies and the Silberman School of Social Work. She also serves as a Professor of Psychology in the Doctoral Program in Critical Social Psychology and Women’s Studies at The Graduate Center, CUNY.
In 2015, she founded SexGenLab in collaboration with students in Hunter’s Women and Gender Studies program. Since 2021, she has chaired the Human Rights Policy and Curriculum Committee at the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute at Hunter College.
Prior to her roles at CUNY, Professor Tolman held faculty positions at San Francisco State University, where she was the Founding Director of the Center for Research on Gender and Sexuality, and at Wellesley College. She also worked as a research assistant and instructor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Her recent courses include: “Growing Up Girl”, “Critical Heterosexuality Studies”, “The Listening Guide”, and “Qualitative Inquiry”.
